An e-commerce site designed to showcase the need for and benefits of high quality HR documents for small businesses that don’t have their own HR department.

The Brief

HRtoolkit was set up by Lisa Mackay to support small businesses that need help managing their employees but do not have the money or resources to have an in-house HR department. Lisa supports hundreds of businesses across New Zealand by providing high quality template HR documents that can be used in a range of environments… without the usuals costs.

Lisa recognised that her existing website was out of date and did not accurately reflect the values and brand that she was aiming for. In addition Lisa was keen to have something more modern and multi-device friendly, as well as taking advantage of advancements in the WordPress and WooCommerce development space to extend her offering further.

The Approach

Working closely with Lisa and her marketing partner, we spent time to understand what her primary requirements were for the new site and what sites inspired her, both inside and outside of the HR industry.

We took an iterative approach to developing the new site alongside the existing one. This allowed us to build out and test core functionality without impacting the existing customer experience and meant that we were able to learn quickly what worked and what didn’t. Lisa was very open with her feedback and was also happy to be guided by us as to the best approach.

The Outcome

The final result was a fresh new design and website experience that worked across all device types, ensuring customers could research and purchase their desired HR documents wherever they were. In addition we integrated additional payment options allowing customers to choose an option that suited them, while also allowing Lisa to reduce her costs.

Now that the site is live we are monitoring performance and continuing to optimise the experience for the end user, as well as develop new functionality to deliver an even wider range of services for Lisa’s customers.
